In addition to telling us we had no school on Tuesday and would take a class picture on Wednesday, Dina also told us that on Thursday we’d have our first test.
She said it would be a very little test, would center around the verbs we’d learned, and not to worry about it. I studied a little, but not really especially.
Anyway, the “test” came during the afternoon session of class. We were told to put away our books, to fold a sheet of paper into nine equal boxes and then to write the masculine singular and infinitive froms of nine verbs of our choice.
You know what happened next?…..Bingo, you’re right! No really – we played BINGO. Dina would call out a verb and if you had it, you’d mark it off. Anytime somebody called Bingo, Dina would check them and give them two salt water taffys (not just the first person who got Bingo).
Um, where was this approach to giving exams when I was in high school ???
